Meet the Therapist
Adriana G. Ascencio, MSW, LCSW-BACS, ADHD-CCSP, PMH-C
Adriana, known as Gabbi, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 8 years of clinical experience across military behavioral health, pediatric and medical social work, inpatient psychiatric care, and hospice/home health. She has provided direct clinical services to active-duty service members, medically complex children and families, and adults navigating crisis and chronic illness. Her work has extended into clinical supervision, policy development, and community leadership. She holds a Master of Social Work from Louisiana State University, is trained in EMDR therapy, and holds certifications as a Perinatal Mental Health Clinician (PMH-C) and ADHD Clinical Services Provider.
Gabbi founded Resilient Roots Social Work Services on the belief that quality mental health care should be accessible — not a privilege. She specializes in trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and perinatal mental health. As a PMH-C, she is specifically trained to support women through pregnancy, postpartum, infertility, pregnancy loss, and the broader emotional landscape of the perinatal period — a stage of life that is often underserved and misunderstood. Her EMDR training equips her to work with trauma at a neurological level, moving beyond insight alone to help clients process and release what talk therapy cannot always reach. For clients navigating ADHD, she brings an informed, non-pathologizing lens to both assessment and treatment — recognizing that ADHD in across the lifespan is frequently underdiagnosed, misunderstood, and often entangled with anxiety, trauma, and burnout
Gabbi's approach is psychodynamic at its core — meaning she is as interested in the patterns beneath the surface as she is in the presenting problem. Sessions are warm, nonjudgmental, and, yes, occasionally funny. She believes that therapy doesn't have to be heavy every minute to do serious work, and that the relationship between therapist and client is itself part of the healing. Telehealth and in-person sessions available across Louisiana, Texas, Florida, and Colorado. Most insurance accepted, including Medicaid
Paw-fessional Support Staff
Mavis is an official member of the Resilient Roots team and takes her role in the office very seriously. She is calm, consistent, and remarkably good at making people feel welcome the moment they walk through the door. Mavis has a natural gift for creating a sense of ease in the room — no intake paperwork required. If having a dog nearby helps you feel more comfortable during your visit, she is happy to oblige. If you'd prefer she keep to herself, she is equally professional about that. Mavis maintains a strict policy of warmth without imposition, and she has never once broken confidentiality.

About Resilient Roots
Resilient Roots Counseling was founded in 2023 and launched as a full-time practice in February 2026 — shaped by the conviction that resilience is not something people have to earn or build from nothing. In most cases, it's already there.
That belief is personal. It grew from firsthand experience with the weight of inherited cycles — and with the very real human capacity to break them. The same experiences that made the realities of mental health and addiction impossible to ignore are what drew this practice into existence and gave it its name.
Resilient Roots exists to meet people where that strength already lives, and to provide the support that helps it grow. The work is individual, but the impact extends further — into families, relationships, and the broader communities each person is part of.
